Dr. Bu went to Finland to engage in postdoctoral research from 1999 to 2000. And then, he has participated in the third generation, the fourth generation of mobile communication standards research and development and host independent intellectual property rights broadband wireless multi-mode chip development and broadband wireless access system equipment research and development.

Bu Zhiyong, male, was born in 1970 at Chuzhou, Anhui Province. Currently, Mr. Bu acts as the Director, the research fellow and the tutor of doctoral candidates at the Research Lab of Broadband Wireless Communication of The SIMIT, CAS, and serves as a part-time professor and tutor of doctoral candidates at Shanghai Jiaotong University. He graduated from the state key labs of mobile communications at Southeast University in 1999 and got his doctor’s degree.

From 1999 to 2000, Bu has been engaging in the post-doctorate research in Nokia, Finland. After returned to China, he participated in the R&D of standards for the 3rd generation and the 4th generation mobile communications and directed the development of the first broadband wireless multi-media access chip and the R&D of broadband wireless access systems and devices with our own intellectual property rights in China.

The R&D team led by Bu has broken through the key technology in the field of new-generation broadband wireless emergency communications, directed the formulation of standards for the state broadband wireless multimedia, participated in the progress of international 4G standardization and completed the first domestic integration test for 4G system. Relevant systems and devices have already been applied to irrigation works, power supply, public security and transportation. Meanwhile, he participated in the construction of several “wireless” cities, bringing us millions of economic benefits and providing the armies with favorable technical support for anti-terrorism and stability preservation in some strategically important regions. In particular, these projects played an important role in rescue and aerial drainage of Tangjiashan after the outbreak of 5.12 Earthquake in Sichuan. These contributed enormously to the reduction of the country’s economic losses and protection of people’s lives, which won some favorable comments from related administrations of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the State Council.

In addition, he used to act as the project director of some influential state programs and municipal research programs, published over 50 academic articles in total in the prestigious journals and international conferences and applied for 17 patents of invention at home and abroad. Four of the 17 patents of invention are authorized, including the authorization of a PCT international patent. He has won the Progress Award of Shanghai Science and Technology and been granted by the Program of Leading Talents and Rising Star of Shanghai.
